A meeting organized by the World Class University Project, USJP was held with Chinese delegates Mr. Chen Weilin, Director, The Chinese Institute of International Education and Mr. Liu Bo-Yang, Manager, International Relations Office, The Chinese Institute of International Education on 17th May 2018 at the university premises with the presence of Prof. Sampath Amaratunge, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura and Prof. Ranil De Silva, Director, World Class University Project of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura.

Following the recent negotiations took place regards to originating a jointly-operated Belt and Road Institute of Innovation and Incubation (BRIII) to enhance the relationship between USJP and Chinese universities and governmental agencies at all levels, the interests were expressed in signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the University of Sri Jayewardenepura and The Chinese Institute of International Education in due course. The proceedings of the MoU and the establishment of the BRIII will open up numerous opportunities such as students/lecturers exchange programs, research projects and public, private partnerships which would mutually benefit both countries.

As Mr. Weilin indicated, these efforts will be majorly focused on facilitating the growth of the communities. Further discussions took place regards to the possibilities of the collaborations with Chinese investors/entrepreneurs in strengthening the initiation of Business Incubators within the University. The proposed Business Incubators will be supporting the innovative start-ups to develop the businesses and penetrate the international markets. The event today certainly was a milestone of the joint-collaboration of CIIE and USJP for a brighter future together.
