Introduction
The faculty of Graduate Studies, University of Sri Jayewardenepura offers a Master of Science Degree in Real Estate Management and Valuation (M.Sc. in REMV) and a Postgraduate Diploma in Real Estate Management and Valuation (PG Dip in REMV) conducted by the Department of Estate Management and Valuation.

This Program is particularly designed for graduates and practitioners in the field of Real Estate Management and Valuation and graduates in other fields, who wish to enhance and improve their competence and extend their qualifications in the aforesaid field.

The Department of Estate Management and Valuation, is one of the key institutions in land-based undergraduate education and the sole institution of producing graduates in Real Estate Management and Valuation in Sri Lanka for more than three decades. Having acquired this long standing experience, the department has realized the necessity of postgraduate education in the field. Furthermore, the collaborative efforts of the state sector, private sector and the non-government sector in the national economic development should be underpinned by well qualified academics, professionals, and the business community essentially in the field of Real Estate Management and Valuation. In this context, the Department of Estate Management and Valuation attached to the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce in the University of Sri Jayewardenepura wishes to extend its education and research opportunities through these programs.

Aims and Objectives

  1. To provide opportunities for graduates and practitioners to obtain postgraduate qualifications in Real Estate Management and Valuation.
  2. To enhance skills which are highly applicable to a range of occupational and professional competence in the field of Real Estate Management and Valuation.
  3. To promote research in the area of Real Estate Management and Valuation.
  4. To nurture the further potentials of the Department for the development of the country.

Program Duration

The duration of the M.Sc. in REMV degree program is two (02) academic years consists of six (06) equal terms.

The duration of the PG Dip in REMV program is one (01) academic year consists of three (03) equal terms.

Program Structure
The subjects offered for the course are two types as of compulsory subjects and elective subjects. Students must register for all compulsory subjects. However, elective subjects are optional for which students can register according to their interests.

Real Estate Marketing & Finance

Planning Practice and Management
Research Methods and Dissertation

Compulsory and Elective Subjects
The subjects offered for the program are of two types as compulsory and elective. Students must register for all compulsory subjects. However, elective subjects are optional for which students can register according to their interests.

Teaching Methodology

  1. Learning through lectures and assignments.
  2. Enhancement of skills through Practical exposure to the real world by way of preparing project reports, practical assignments, GIS lab assignments, case studies, team works etc.
  3. Medium of instructions is in English.
  4. All lectures and examinations are held in weekends (and evenings of week days when necessary)

Admission Requirements
To be eligible for admission, an applicant must have:

  1. B.Sc. Estate Management & Valuation (special) Degree with a First or Second-Class Upper Division Pass, obtained from a recognised university, or
  2. B.Sc. Estate Management & Valuation (special) Degree with Second-Class Lower Division pass obtained from a recognised university and one year post qualifying relevant professional experience, or
  3. B.Sc. Estate Management & Valuation (special) Degree with an Ordinary Pass obtained from a recognised university and two year post qualifying relevant professional experience, or
  4. A Bachelor’s Degree in any subject area obtained from a recognised university with at least three years post-qualifying relevant professional experience in the field of Real Estate Management and Valuation, or
  5. A recognized professional/academic qualifications with post-qualifying professional experience in an executive capacity acceptable to the Department and the Senate of the University.
  6. B.Sc. Estate Management & Valuation (special) Degree holders with an Ordinary Pass are also eligible to register for the postgraduate diploma. Successful completion of the Diploma is a qualification to register for the M.Sc. Program.
  7. A Bachelor's Degree in any subject area obtained from a recognized university with a class is eligible to register for the postgraduate diploma. Successful completion of the Diploma is a qualification to register for the M.Sc. Program.

Recognized Professional Qualifications

  1. Member of the Royal Institution of Charted Surveyors (RICS), UK – General Practice
  2. Member of the Institute of Valuers of Sri Lanka
  3. Member of the Institute of Town Planners of Sri Lanka
  4. Diploma in Valuation from Sri Lanka Technical College, with 10 years experience in the field of Real Estate Management and valuation
  5. B.Sc. Surveying Sciences - Institute of Surveying and Mapping, Diyatalawa
  6. Diploma of Survey - Institute of Surveying and Mapping, Diyatalawa
  7. Any other qualification recognized by the Senate of the University.

Application Procedure
Application for the M.Sc. in REMV and PG. Dip REMV must be made using the set of application supplied by the Faculty. The applicants are advised to follow the instructions carefully. The following documents should also be submitted along with the duly completed application.

  1. Certified copies of certificates/transcripts from the graduating University or Institution showing details of the degree awarded.
  2. Two recommendations.
  3. Certified copies of certificates showing details, of professional qualifications.
  4. Evidence of a satisfactory knowledge on English (e.g. G.C.E. (O/L) (A/L), TOEFL etc.).
  5. Certified copies of all other relevant certificates/documents.

Applications Process

  1. Applications: Applications are available in the office of the Faculty of Graduate Studies, University of Sri Jayewardenepura or can be download
  2. Application Acknowledged: The Faculty of Graduate Studies Office confirms application as complete or incomplete and seeks clarification or documentation as needed.
  3. Evaluation of the application: Duly completed applications are evaluated so as to ensure weather the applicant meets the eligibility criteria.
  4. Admission Test: The admission test will be conducted to measure the applicant’s aptitude, Intelligence and English Proficiency. Those who get a minimum of 40% of marks for the paper shall be called for the interview.
  5. Interview: All the candidates who are success in the admission test will be assessed by an interview panel for further screening.
  6. Final Selection: Selection of candidates for the program will be based on the marks of the test as the interview.

Course Fee

  • M.Sc. in REMV: Rs. 140,000/=
  • Postgraduate Diploma: Rs. 95,000/=
  • Registration Fee: Rs. 2,000/=
  • Refundable Library Deposit: Rs. 1,500/=
  • MSc Application Processing Fee: Rs. 600/=
