50th Anniversary Academic Conference of The University of Sri Jayewardenepura

10 to 12 December 2009

Fiftieth Anniversary academic conference is one of the events planned by the University of Sri Jayewardenepura for the celebration of its Golden Jubilee.  We celebrate the Golden Jubilee of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura in the year 2009. We have organized number of very important events to commemorate this Jubilee. 50th Anniversary Academic Conference (December 10-12) is the most important academic and research Endeavour which indicates the potential and contribution of our academic community.

The theme of the conference “Buddhism, Science and Development” is highly relevant to the University since it was started in 1873 as a leading Buddhist educational institute “Vidyodaya Pirivena”. This Pirivena was upgraded to a University in 1959 as the Vidyodaya University to protect, develop and expand the Sinhala Language and Buddhist Culture all over the world.

During these 5 decades, our academic community has contributed to the national development by way of their research and teaching. Different Departments and Faculties are conducting their own research fora annually. On the whole, this conference is unique because it gives all the academics an opportunity to participate in presenting their research activities. Furthermore, foreign and outside experts also present their highly recognized research activities.
