It is with the greatest sadness that I announce the heartbreaking news of the death of our teacher, colleague and friend, Professor Dharmasena de Silva – the founding Dean of the Faculty of Management Studies & Commerce of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura.

He passed away a few days ago in the United States of America. The Faculty of Management and Commerce which commenced under his leadership in 1972 pays tribute to Professor de Silva for being the Seat of Excellence in the fields of Management Studies and Commerce in Sri Lanka. Throughout his tenure at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, his tremendous contribution created perfect graduates in the management stream, by paving ways for the continuation and development of the Faculty of Management Studies & Commerce. Even after his departure from Sri Lanka, he continued to contribute in diverse ways to the betterment of the university.

Professor de Silva’s capacity for headship and management, his perennial courtesy, positive outlook and his generosity of spirit earned him the respect, loyalty and affection of his colleagues. He has been acknowledged and valued as a very excellent leader and scholar of the university. He will be missed and fondly remembered by everyone in the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, particularly in the Faculty of Management and Commerce.

On behalf of the entire community of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, I express my heartfelt condolences on his demise.
