DESCRIPTION:Dr. Gulia to deliver Guest Lecture on Science of Sleep: “Historical Perspective and Emerging trends of Sleep” on 13th February 2019 from 3.00 pm to  3.45 pm at Auditorium\, Department of Surgery\, Faculty of Medical Sciences\, University of Sri Jayewardenepura. \n Kamalesh K. Gulia is Scientist & In-charge\, Division of Sleep Research at Biomedical Technology wing of the Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences & Technology (SCTIMST)\, An Institute of National Importance under Govt. of India in Trivandrum\, Kerala\, India. \nDr Gulia pursued ‘Neurophysiology of Sleep’ at All India Institute of Medical Sciences\, New Delhi and attained expertise in the advanced neurophysiological techniques availing the International Brain Research Organization\, i.e. IBRO-International Fellowship working in the Fukushima Medical University\, Japan in 2006. After returning from Japan\, she worked as Scientist at the National Brain Research Center\, Manesar for short tenure. With extensive expertise in area of sleep\, she joined SCTIMST\, Trivandrum to initiate the Sleep Research Lab\, a laboratory of International standard\, in late 2010. Her research interests pertain to explore the role of sleep in cognition\, development of neural networks during peri-natal window\, effects of herbal drugs in insomnia. The lab also provides training in sleep research to national and International students. \nShe organised the 5th National Sleep Medicine Course at Trivandrum in 2010\, conducted the 4th national Conference of Indian Society for Sleep Research in Trivandrum in the same year. Recently\, she organized 8th International Conference of the Asian Sleep Research Society in Kovalam in 2014\, which was attended by International Sleep experts from more than 15 countries. \nGulia has authored more than 30 full papers in peer-reviewed International journals and edited 3 conference proceedings. She has presented the research findings in various national and International Conferences (Thailand\, Japan\, China\, Iran\, New Zealand\, Australia\, USA\, France\, Taiwan\, Czech Republic\, India) and acclaimed several awards including the Young Investigator Awards at 29th Meeting of Japanese Neuroscience Society (Kyoto) in 2006 &  at 34th IUPS congress (Christchurch\, New Zealand) by FAOPS in 2001; Young Scientist Award at the 4th Asian Sleep Research Society Congress (Zhuhai\, China) in 2004; Best poster Award at 3rd Asian Sleep Research Society Congress (Bangkok\, Thailand) in 1999 etc. \nShe is currently the General Secretary of the Indian Society for Sleep Research and faculty of the National Sleep Medicine Course organized by ISSR. She is elected as a member of National Academy of Medical Sciences (India) and is also executive member of India Academy of Neurosciences. \n \nDownload Poster>>
