SUMMARY:Hands on Workshop for Materials Characterization
DESCRIPTION:IC-FAS is pleased to offer two-day hands on workshop focused on wide range materials characterizations. The workshop will provide a working knowledge of each technique and how these methods are used to characterize material properties. General concepts and specific examples will be used to illustrate how these methods are employed to characterize the materials. Participants will gain practical knowledge of the measurement techniques along with the tools to get the most out of their instrumentation. By discussing common applications\, the attendees will also learn how each testing technique can be used to differentiate materials and ultimately predict and optimize product performance. This practical workshop is geared for both experienced users that want to better understand the measurement technologies\, and those new to material characterizations. \nIf you are not yet currently using these characterization techniques\, this workshop will provide insight into how the instrumentation may complement your existing laboratory capabilities.  Further the interactive sessions will also be a great opportunity to meet and discuss your testing needs with our applications specialists. \nThe registration includes lunch\, refreshments and a certificate for participation. Established in 1978\, the University of Sri Jayewardenepura is a renowned higher education institute in Sri Lanka and is committed to engaging in high quality research of local and international relevance. \nIMURC 2019 is a two day academic conference to be held on the 7th and 8th February 2019\, in Colombo. IMURC will provide local and international medical undergraduates the unique opportunity of presenting and discussing their research work with peers and experts and networking with participants. \nIMURC will challenge undergraduates to rethink their work in an international context and to examine and share global trends in their areas of interest. The conference will feature local and international speakers and will provide a platform for undergraduates to share knowledge and discuss issues of global importance with experts. \nIMURC invites medical and allied health undergraduates to submit abstracts for oral and poster presentations. DESCRIPTION:Dr. Gulia to deliver Guest Lecture on Science of Sleep: “Historical Perspective and Emerging trends of Sleep” on 13th February 2019 from 3.00 pm to  3.45 pm at Auditorium\, Department of Surgery\, Faculty of Medical Sciences\, University of Sri Jayewardenepura. \n Kamalesh K. Gulia is Scientist & In-charge\, Division of Sleep Research at Biomedical Technology wing of the Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences & Technology (SCTIMST)\, An Institute of National Importance under Govt. of India in Trivandrum\, Kerala\, India. \nDr Gulia pursued ‘Neurophysiology of Sleep’ at All India Institute of Medical Sciences\, New Delhi and attained expertise in the advanced neurophysiological techniques availing the International Brain Research Organization\, i.e. IBRO-International Fellowship working in the Fukushima Medical University\, Japan in 2006. After returning from Japan\, she worked as Scientist at the National Brain Research Center\, Manesar for short tenure. With extensive expertise in area of sleep\, she joined SCTIMST\, Trivandrum to initiate the Sleep Research Lab\, a laboratory of International standard\, in late 2010. Her research interests pertain to explore the role of sleep in cognition\, development of neural networks during peri-natal window\, effects of herbal drugs in insomnia. The lab also provides training in sleep research to national and International students. \nShe organised the 5th National Sleep Medicine Course at Trivandrum in 2010\, conducted the 4th national Conference of Indian Society for Sleep Research in Trivandrum in the same year. Recently\, she organized 8th International Conference of the Asian Sleep Research Society in Kovalam in 2014\, which was attended by International Sleep experts from more than 15 countries. \nGulia has authored more than 30 full papers in peer-reviewed International journals and edited 3 conference proceedings. She has presented the research findings in various national and International Conferences (Thailand\, Japan\, China\, Iran\, New Zealand\, Australia\, USA\, France\, Taiwan\, Czech Republic\, India) and acclaimed several awards including the Young Investigator Awards at 29th Meeting of Japanese Neuroscience Society (Kyoto) in 2006 &  at 34th IUPS congress (Christchurch\, New Zealand) by FAOPS in 2001; Young Scientist Award at the 4th Asian Sleep Research Society Congress (Zhuhai\, China) in 2004; Best poster Award at 3rd Asian Sleep Research Society Congress (Bangkok\, Thailand) in 1999 etc. \nShe is currently the General Secretary of the Indian Society for Sleep Research and faculty of the National Sleep Medicine Course organized by ISSR. She is elected as a member of National Academy of Medical Sciences (India) and is also executive member of India Academy of Neurosciences. \n \nDownload Poster>>

DESCRIPTION:Ritzbury\, Sri Lanka’s number one chocolate brand manufactured by Ceylon Biscuits Limited (CBL)\, has been significant in uplifting sports in Sri Lanka and took a revolutionary step to sponsor Vidudaya Swimming Championship for the first time in 2018.  The Company partnered with the University of Sri Jayewardenepura which has the largest swimming pool in Sri Lanka\, to make the first Ritzbury All-island Interschool Age Group Swimming Championship a reality. \nTaking its legacy into greater heights the Physical Education Department of the University along with the Sports Council and the sole sponsor of the event\, ‘Ritzbury’ has joined hands for the second consecutive time in organizing Vidudaya Ritzbury Annual Inter-School Swimming Championship 2019 scheduled to be held on the 09th and 10th of March at the Mahinda Rajapakshe Swimming Pool Complex in the University of University of Sri Jayewardenepura from 08.00am onwards. \nThis Championship attracted well over 2500 swimmers from over 130 schools last year and the organizers believe that the numbers will grow this year with its popularity among school children.
