The Leo Club of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura secured the ‘District Contest Award’ at the 16th Annual Leo District Conference of Leo District 306 A2 held on the 28th of November at Hotel Deandra in Bolgoda.
It should be noted that this is a record-breaking moment that occurred after twenty years. Despite being a young club that completes three years in operation, the attribution of the ‘District Contest Award’ by earning the highest number of points throughout the year is indeed an exemplary achievement. The Leo Club of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura also won ‘Most Outstanding Projects’ for Crime & Accident Prevention, Drug Prevention and Rehabilitation, Public Relationships, Disaster Management and Prevention, Quality Education and Literacy, Hunger, Childhood Cancer, Best Joint Project with Non-Leo/Outside Organizations, Best International Joint Project and Most Outstanding Joint Service Project. Dr. Janaka Fernando, the Staff Advisor of Leo Club of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, was awarded ‘Second Runners Up’ under the ‘Most Outstanding Staff Advisor’ category at the conference. The Immediate Past Club President Leo Shanali Abeysinghe was awarded the ‘Most Outstanding Leo Scholar Award’, which is one of the most prestigious awards to be won at the ceremony. Thus, the Leo Club of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura won a total of 36 Awards and over 20 more nominations at the 16th Annual Leo District Conference.
Continuously contributing to the betterment of society, the Leo Club of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura will perpetually strive to embark upon greatness in the future as well.
