Calling for applications – “Young Innovators Award in Health Sciences – 2021”

Organizers of RCHS 2021 is calling for applications from young and enthusiastic innovators in Sri Lanka to share their experiences on their health-related innovations at the RCHS 2021 to be held on 31st March 2021.

You are eligible to apply if,

  • You are under the age of 40 years as at 25th February 2020

AND

  • You are currently an undergraduate/postgraduate student OR a graduate passed out from a recognized university.

AND

  • Your innovation is a health innovation as defined by the World Health Innovation Group (WHIGP) as follows,

‘Health innovation is to develop and deliver new or improved health policies, systems, products and technologies, and services and delivery methods that improve people’s health.’ [More details visit https://www.who.int/life-course/about/who-health-innovation-group/en/]

Review process

  • The extended abstracts will undergo blinded peer-review by a panel of 3-5 independent academic members of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura selected by the Research Committee, FAHS, USJ considering subject expertise
  • Extended abstracts will be selected in the first round based on the relevance, novelty, and translatability to practice. The selected extended abstracts will be then reviewed for scientific content (including corrections by applicants) to select three finalists. Of the three finalists, the ‘Best Young Innovator in Health Sciences’, and 1st and 2nd runners up will be selected by the review panel. Merit awards will be given for the remaining applicants if their abstracts are accepted by the review panel.

All members of the review panel will be requested to declare conflict of interest.

Benefits for the top three finalists

The top three finalists will

  • Receive award and certificate for ‘Best Young Innovator in Health Sciences’/1st runners up/ 2nd runners up awards.
  • Be invited to speak on their health-related innovation at the RCHS 2021 (20 mins each) which is a highlight of the scientific program on this day (The presenter will have to be present in person).
  • Have their extended abstracts published in the e-conference proceedings as invited speakers in this category.
  • Be given the opportunity to publish a full article in the Journal of Health Sciences and Innovative Research which is the official journal of the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, USJ

Submission

The applicants should submit the following documents before the stipulated deadline

  • Checklist – Duly filled and signed by applicant
  • Duly filled application form
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Declaration form including all authors/supervisors of the abstract consenting to this submission. If group innovation the presenting author (who shall be the applicant) must be specified and consented by other authors/supervisors.
  • Statement of purpose.
  • An extended abstract not exceeding 1000 words [Refer extended abstract submission guideline in conference website]
  • ERC approval letter/certificate (if relevant)
  • Proof of undergraduate/postgraduate studentship or certification of graduation from a recognized university
  • Proof that applicant is under 40 years old as at 25th February 2021
  • Any other document (if any) that would emphasize the novelty of the innovation
  • Photograph/s, images of innovation if applicable

Submission opens: 8th February 2021

Submission deadline: 25th February 2021 [12 midnight local time]
