Dr. Suren Batagoda Center for Mangrove Conservation and Climate Resilience USJ at Ittapana, Kalutara now open for the public

Dr. Suren Batagoda Center for Mangrove Conservation and Climate Resilience at Ittapana, Kalutara-The newest field research center of the Department of Forestry and Environmental Science- was opened for the public on 9th December 2022 by Senior Professor Sudantha Liyanage, the Vice Chancellor, USJ. The 2-acre property and the building were donated by an alumnus of the USJ, Dr. B.M.S. Batagoda.

The Center for Mangrove Conservation and Climate Resilience is part of a broader community-based mangrove conservation and climate change adaptation project, which feature mangrove restoration and mangrove-based economic development programs. The Center for Sustainability of the Department of Forestry and Environmental Science invites all interested parties of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura to join and contribute to this project and utilize the new research facilities.

The building was fully renovated with the financial support of the Citizens Development Business Finance PLC, and the Center is now equipped with basic accommodation facilities for field researchers.Dr. Suren Batagoda, Prof Priyan Perera, Prof Hiran Amarasekera, Prof. M. M. Pathmalal and other guests participated to this event.
