Alumnus Professor Manori Gamage Named Dean of Medical Sciences at USJ

The University of Sri Jayewardenepura proudly announces the appointment of Prof. Manori Gamage, an esteemed alumnus, as the new Dean of the Faculty of Medical Sciences.

Outstanding Academic Attainment:

Prof. Manori Gamage , from the first batch of medical undergraduates of FMS/USJ, obtained her MBBS with First Class Honors from USJ in 1998 obtaining 09 Distinctions and 03 gold medals including Prof. M.T.M Jiffery Gold medal for the best student.

Bringing glory to the newly established Faculty of Medical sciences, she became first in the all island common merit list prepared by the UGC in 1998. Later she obtained MD (Paediatrics) & DCH (COL) from PGIM – University of Colombo in 2005 and was board certified as a Consultant Paediatrician in 2007.

Specialized Medical Training:

After completing her overseas training for two years in UK she got MRCPCH (UK) in 2008 followed by FRCPCH (UK) from Royal College of Paediatrics & Child Health (UK) in 2020.

Academic Leadership and Teaching Excellence:

In 2002, Prof. Manori joined the Department of Paediatrics, Faculty of Medical Sciences as a probationary lecturer and became a senior lecturer in 2007. She became the head of the Department of Paediatrics in 2016 and promoted to the post of Professor (Merit) in Paediatrics in 2022.

She received the staff award for Excellence in teaching from FMS at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura in 2021.

First Alumna Dean:

She is the 1st alumnus who was appointed as the Dean of the Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Sri Jayewardenepura.

As an accomplished pediatrician and distinguished alumnus, she will bring invaluable leadership and experience to advance medical education at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura in her new role as Dean.
