Professor Lasanthi Jayathunge has been elected as the new Dean of the Faculty of Technology, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, at the Faculty Board meeting.
She will assume duties as Dean on 8 September 2026 at 9.15 a.m. at the Faculty of Technology.
Professor Jayathunge is a Professor in Food Processing Technology in the Department of Biosystems Technology, Faculty of Technology. She received her Bachelor’s and M.Phil. degrees in Food Science and Technology from the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Peradeniya, and completed her PhD at Queen’s University Belfast, United Kingdom, in 2016. Her doctoral research focused on emerging food-processing technologies.
Her professional career began in 2001 at the Institute of Post-Harvest Technology, Anuradhapura, where she served as a Research Officer. She joined the University of Sri Jayewardenepura as a Senior Lecturer in 2017 and was promoted to Professor in 2021.
Professor Jayathunge has served the University in several leadership capacities, including as Head of the Department of Biosystems Technology and Chairperson of the Board of Study in Industrial Technology at the Faculty of Graduate Studies.
With more than 25 years of experience in academia, research and professional practice, her work has made significant contributions to post-harvest technology, food processing and technology education in Sri Lanka. Her scholarly record includes publications in reputed international journals, presentations at national and international conferences, and recognitions including the Presidential Award for scientific publications.
