Senior Professor Upul Subasinghe officially assumed duties as the Vice Chancellor of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura at an auspicious ceremony held on 31 July 2026 at 10.15 a.m.
The assumption of duties took place amidst the chanting of Set Pirith to invoke blessings. The ceremony was graced by the Chancellor of the University, Most Venerable Iththapana Dhammalankara Thero, members of the University Council, former Vice Chancellors including Senior Professor Pathmalal Manage and Senior Professor Sampath Amaratunge, the Registrar, members of the academic and administrative staff, distinguished guests, and family members of the Vice Chancellor.
Addressing the gathering, Senior Professor Upul Subasinghe reaffirmed his commitment to further strengthening the University’s excellence in teaching, research, innovation, community engagement, and international collaboration. He also highlighted the importance of working collectively with all stakeholders to build upon the University’s achievements and continue its progress as one of Sri Lanka’s leading higher education institutions.
