“Sip Sayura 2015” Donates a computer lab to Giriulla Madalpola Maha Vidyalaya

It is the age of technology and everything in today’s society is based on computers. However, it is still a dream to many students in developing countries like ours to learn to use a computer.
Realizing the importance of making the next generation of our youth tech-savvy, a few years back the Students’ Union of the Faculty of Applied Sciences of University of Sri Jayewardenepura took the initiative to contribute in their capacity to this worthy cause. Through their annual charity project ‘Sip sayura’, they take up the mammoth task of donating a fully-equipped computer laboratory to a rural school.

On the 28th of September 2015, they donated 15 computers to Giriulla Madalpola Maha VIdyalala in Kirimatiyawa, which had only 3 computers, for around 1000 students. The refurbished laboratory was officially handed over to the students by Prof. Sandun Senarath Head of the Department of Botany, in the presence of the Regional Educational Director of Kurunegala and other invitees and well wishers.

The funds for this project were raised by the undergraduates through their annual cultural extravaganza held in grand scale. Further as part of their community service they conducted a series of educational seminars for underprivileged students.
