South Asian scientists in Jayewadenepura to discuss Crystal Engineering

1st South East Asia Conference on Crystal Engineering (SEACCE), organized by the department of Chemistry, University of Sri Jayewardenepura and was held on September 5-7, 2016 at University of Sri Jayewardenepura in association with International Union of Crystallography.

The main objective of the conference was to provide a platform for academic researchers and industrial professionals from south and East Asia to bond together and present their recent studies and exchange the novel ideas in the field of crystal engineering. At present, crystal engineering has become an emerging field of study where concepts of crystal engineering have been utilized in many fields such as Pharmaceutical Industry, Electronics, Nano medicine and Material science, to develop novel materials with enhanced properties.

World leading figures in Crystal Engineering such as Prof Gautam R. Desiraju (Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India), Prof X. M. Chen (Sun Yat-Sen University, Guangzhou, China),  Prof. Atta-ur-Rahman (Meritorious Professor Patron-in-Chief, International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences, University of Karachi, Karachi, Pakistan) had been participated in the SEACCE.

This conference was an excellent opportunity for the Sri Lankan scientific community in expanding their knowledge. In specific, Sri Lanka Pharmaceutical industry, agro-chemical industry and material science industry were highly benefitted by this, as concepts of crystal engineering can successfully be used in solving current problems associated with these industries.
