USJ Became Joint 3rd in Sri Lanka and 1401+ in QS World University Rankings 2027

The University of Sri Jayewardenepura (USJ) has proudly secured joint 3rd place among Sri Lankan universities in the prestigious QS World University Rankings 2027, released on 18 June 2026 by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), a world-leading higher education analytics organization.

This recognition places USJ among an elite group of only four Sri Lankan universities featured in the rankings globally – a testament to the university’s unwavering commitment to academic excellence, research, and international engagement.

The 2027 edition is the most extensive in the ranking’s history, featuring 1,504 universities from across the globe, with 98 new institutions entering for the first time. Against this intensely competitive backdrop, USJ has held firm at the 1401+ band globally, while also earning a strong 343rd place in the QS Asia University Rankings – underscoring its growing regional stature.

Maintaining a place in the QS World University Rankings is a significant institutional achievement, particularly as universities across East Asia and the Middle East continue to invest heavily in research, international collaboration, and academic visibility. That USJ stands alongside the University of Colombo, University of Peradeniya, and University of Moratuwa as one of Sri Lanka’s four globally ranked universities speaks to the depth of talent, dedication, and vision driving the institution forward.

USJ’s continued presence in the rankings reflects strength across key performance indicators -including internationally connected research networks, academic reputation, and sustainability performance – areas in which the university is actively accelerating its strategic investments.

Looking ahead, USJ is laser-focused on moving further up the rankings through targeted initiatives to boost research productivity and citation impact, forge new international academic partnerships, deepen employer engagement, and amplify the global reach of its scholarly output.

“We are proud of what this recognition represents,” the university affirmed, “and even more motivated by what lies ahead.” With a clear strategic vision and a community of dedicated academics, researchers, students, alumni, and partners behind it, USJ is positioning itself for measurable, sustainable growth in future editions of the QS World University Rankings.
