Wasundara Fernando, a lecturer (probationary) in the B.Pharm Degree Program, Faculty of Medical Sciences and pursuing her Ph.D. (Cancer Biology) studies at the Faculty of Medicine, Dalhousie University, Nova Scotia, Canada under the supervision of Dr. Vasantha Rupasinghe and Dr. David Hoskin was recently featured in TV programs, newspapers and electronic media in Canada for her research findings. Her research explores the efficacy, safety and pharmacokinetics of a novel flavonoid fatty acid derivative (PZ-DHA) to treat metastatic breast cancer. Wasundara was also awarded a cancer research traineeship award from Beatrice Hunter Cancer Research Institute in Halifax, Nova Scotia in recognition of her research findings.
