Vision

A pleasant, peaceful and liberal, progressive study and work environment with zero tolerance for all forms of violence and harassment for students and staff, devoid of ragging and sexual and gender-based violence.

Goal of the Centre

To promote Gender Equity/Equality in the University by facilitating the establishment of gender sensitive university cultures and university environments which allow students and university staff (academic/administrative/support) to pursue their work without oppression and discrimination

Objectives

  • Facilitate the establishment/development of appropriate structures/systems on Gender Equity/Equality in the University
  • To house and implement a mechanism of redress for sexual and gender-based violence
  • To assist the Standing Committee on Gender Equity / Equality in strengthening grievance redress procedures related to sexual and gender-based violence in Sri Lankan Universities
  • To assist the Standing Committee on Gender Equity / Equality on monitoring and supporting in implementing of UGC policy on Gender Equity and Equality
  • To facilitate to develop university curricula and research, and contribute other gender-related inputs to the University Community.
  • To conduct training for university staff, students and communities on Gender Equity / Equality,

An Interactive Session on Diversity and Inclusion

The Centre for Gender Equity and Equality, University of  Sri Jayewardenepura, successfully conducted an Interactive Session on “Diversity and Inclusion” on 9th March 2026 at the New Faculty Board Room, FMSC, in celebration of International Women’s Day 2026.

The session was held under the direction and guidance of Dr. R.P.C.K. Jayasinghe, Director of the Centre for Gender Equity and Equality.

The session featured valuable insights from Prof. Dushan Jayawickrama, Dean of the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, and Prof. Hemamalie Gunathilaka of the Department of Business Administration and the Founding Director of the Centre for Gender Equity and Equality of University of Sri Jayewardenepura. Their perspectives encouraged meaningful discussions on promoting diversity and inclusion within the university community.
