A meeting on setting up a business incubator was held at the Vice Chancellors Office on the 8th May 2018, with the participation of Prof. Sampath Amaratunge, Vice Chancellor, University of Sri Sri Jayewardenepura, Prof. Ranil De Silva, Director, World Class University Project, University of Sri Jayawardenapura, Mr Bandula Wickramarachchi, Secretary, Ministry of Primary Industries, Prof. Nandasiri Weerasinghe, Consultant, Ministry of Primary Industries.

Following the discussion, it’s perceived that Sri Lankan entrepreneurs require support in developing their businesses in various aspects. Although innovative ideas proven by researches are abundant, those to be launched as commercialized products are time consuming and demands expertise. Therefore, it’s essential for the entrepreneurs to acquire knowledge and skills to maintain and improve their businesses. A Business Incubator will be designed to cater such needs and bring about sustainable economic growth to the country. Interests were expressed to collaborate this project with the Ministry of Primary Industries. Once the Business Incubator is set up, students with the best business proposals will initially be selected and funded by the Ministry of Primary Industries.
