The Faculty of Engineering to be Established in Kottawa


The University of Sri Jayewardenepura acquired a 10 acre land in Mattegoda, Kottawa for the establishment of the Faculty of Engineering on the 31st of July 2017. This was a momentous occasion for the Faculty which is the youngest state-owned Engineering Faculty in Sri Lanka.

The acquired land is located very close to the buzzing and growing city center of Kottawa, which makes it easily accessible through the Southern Highway as well as a multitude of road networks. A new building complex consisting all necessary state of the art facilities will be constructed within this premises to facilitate academic activities of the Faculty of Engineering in order to produce competent engineers for the nation. Being established according to the vision of the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sampath Amaratunge, the Engineering Faculty at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura is rapidly growing in demand amongst the youth of the Country.

The ownership was handed over by an Officer of the Divisional Secretariat/ Homagama to the Vice Chancellor of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Prof. Sampath Amaratunge.  The Dean of the Engineering Faculty, Dr. Akila Subasinghe, the respective Heads of the Departments, the acting Registrar, Bursar and Officers of the University were present at the occasion. Officers from the Homagama Divisional Secretariat, Valuation Department and the Survey Department were amongst others who witnessed this historic moment.
