An academic exchange programme was conducted by the Department of Geography, University of Sri Jayewardenepura in collaboration with the Department of Geography, Parvatibai Chowgule Collage of Arts and Sciences, Margoa, Goa, India on 4th December 2014. Prof. (Mrs.) Sunethra Thennakoon, Head of the Department was organized this event and several staff members including Prof. C.K. M. Deheragoda , Prof. G.M. Bandaranayake, Dr. Shantha Wijesinghe, Mr. Sumanajith Kumara and students were participated to the event. Three Associate Professors including Head of the Department Dr. Nandakumar N. Sawanth, Dr. Shri Shrikrishna S. Adsul and 12 students were participated as foreign delegates from the above University. Inaugural ceremony was held with warm welcome by the head of the department and then Prof. C.K. M. Deheragoda delivered a lecture on “Eco-Tourism in Sri Lanka” for the foreign students while foreign delegate Associate Professor Dr. Nandakumar N. Sawanth delivered a lecture on “Socio-economic conditions of contemporary India” for the 2nd year students (English medium) in the Department of Geography, University of Sri Jayewardenepura. A student interactive programme was conducted and field visit to “Ape Gama” was organized as the final item to have an experience on Sri Lankan village life for the foreign delegates.
