The Alumni Association of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura successfully organised Ahasin Eha (අහසින් එහා), a grand musical evening, on 22 August 2026 at the Nelum Pokuna Theatre, Colombo. The Vice-Chancellor of the University Senior Professor Upul Subasinghe, Deans of the Faculties, Registrar of the University Mr. A.B. Weliwita, professors and members of the academic staff attended the event. They were joined by the President of the Alumni Association, Mr. Kamal Gamini Silva, Secretary Senior DIG Sujeewa Madawaththa, Treasurer Senior Prof Pradeep Jayaweera, Mr. Rajith Iddamalgoda, members of the Alumni Association, many distinguished alumni, students and a large number of spectators.
The evening commenced with a special tribute to the late Dr. Nanda Malini, in recognition of her exceptional contribution to Sri Lankan music and culture.
The musical production celebrated the lyrical and musical creations of renowned Sri Lankan composer Nilar N. Kasim. The event featured performances by some of Sri Lanka’s leading artistes, including BNS (Bathiya and Santhush), Umaria Sinhawansa, Uresha Ravihari, Ruwan Hettiarachchi, Raween Kanishka, Thanura Madugeeth and Ashka Kulatunga.
The rest of the eminent fellow artists participated for the show were Nirosha Virajini, Edward Jayakody, Theekshana Anuradha, and Samantha Perera
Through a selection of timeless classics and contemporary favourites, the artistes brought together meaningful lyrics, memorable melodies and outstanding live performances, creating a memorable experience for the audience.
The event reflected the continuing efforts of the Alumni Association of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura to engage alumni, the university community and the wider public through initiatives that promote cultural appreciation and strengthen the connection between the University and its alumni.
Held before a large audience at the Nelum Pokuna Theatre, Ahasin Eha was a successful celebration of Sri Lankan music and artistry, further demonstrating the active role played by the Alumni Association in supporting and strengthening the University community.
