Dr Chameera Udawattha received the Presidential Award for Scientific Research 2020

Dr Chameera Udawattha Senior lecturer of Department of Estate Management and Valuation, Faculty of Management Studies & Commerce of USJ received the Presidential Award for Scientific Research 2020, given to the top 100 scientific publications based on their SCImago Journal Ranking (which is source normalized based on weighted citations), where at least 20% of authors are Sri Lankan scientists with a local institutional affiliation. All Sri Lankan scientists with a local institutional affiliation who co-authored the publication will share the award.

He was given this award for the contribution to research conducted during his post-graduate time. He and his research team has found that the mould growth and moss growth rate on different wall construction materials. His study was conducted to understand how moss growth and mould growth in tropical climatic conditions.

His research article publishes in the Journal of Building and environment is one of the high-ranking Journal in the world. In addition to his research article, the research was highlighted in many other internationals’ scientific listings as a major finding. The conclusion of his research was the smoother wall are less prone to moss and fungus whereas rough walls exaggerate the growth of moss and moulds.
