USJ students win at SLASSCOM National Ingenuity Awards 2021

“Sanifly” an innovative project carried out by a team of Final year undergraduates following the Business Information Systems (Special) Degree offered by Department of Information Technology (DIT), Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, University of Sri Jayewardenepura won the National Runners Up position in the Best Innovative product/Project (University Category) of the SLASSCOM National Ingenuity Awards 2021. The project was also selected as a winner at the Western Province Level Category of the same competition. The talented project team consisted of Mr. Pramuk Hewawasam, Ms. Ishara Thennakoon, Mr. Dinuka Wiesundara and Ms. Nipuni Fernando.

SLASSCOM is the national chamber for the IT/BPM industry in Sri Lanka, and the competition pitted them against projects from Universities and Higher Education Institutes around the Country. The award ceremony was held recently at the Shangri-La Hotel amongst a gathering of leading figures in the IT Industry in Sri Lanka.

Project Sanifly was conceived during the Department organized D-Hack 2020 competition, where it won the first place. It is currently a finalist at the Innovation and Invention Competition and Exhibition (IICE 2020/21) conducted by the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. The project involves Mobile, IoT and Machine Learning Technologies to uplift the life of the general public. The project is supervised by Dr. Lasith Gunawardena, Senior Lecturer, Department of IT.
