Fostering Transcontinental Collaboration in STEM Education and Research with QUT, Australia

On April 24th, a delegation from the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) in Australia paid a visit to the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. The warm welcome was extended to the delegates by Prof. Upul Subasinghe, who serves as the Acting Vice Chancellor and the Dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences at USJ. Prof. Subasinghe, along with Prof. Laleen Karunanayake from the Faculty of Applied Sciences, hosted the meeting. The primary objective of the meeting was to explore and strengthen partnerships in the field of STEM disciplines between the two universities. During the meeting, Ms. Marina McKeague, the client manager of the QUT International Office, provided an introduction to the Queensland University of Technology (QUT). She shared information about QUT’s programs, achievements, and international initiatives. Additionally, Professor Troy, the Executive Dean of the Faculty of Science at QUT, discussed the state-of-the-art facilities available within the faculty. Professor Les Dawes and other delegates also contributed to the discussion by presenting key details about the Faculty of Engineering and its affiliated schools. Their presentations likely covered areas such as research strengths, academic offerings, and notable achievements within the respective faculties. Academic representatives from Faculty of Applied Sciences, Faculty of Technology, and Faculty of Engineering participated in the meeting, where they presented their current status, capabilities, achievements, and future initiatives. The meeting provided a platform for showcasing their respective strengths and discussing potential areas of collaboration and joint projects. By focusing on deepening partnerships, the universities aimed to enhance knowledge exchange, research cooperation, and academic advancements in STEM fields.
