The 60th Commemoration of the Most Ven. Welivitiye Sri Soratha Thero was held on 17th July 2023 at the university premises. Most Ven. Welivitiye Sri Soratha Thero was the founder Vice-Chancellor of Vidyodaya University (1959), which later became the University of Sri Jayewardenepura.
The ceremony commenced with offering Amisa Pooja at the Buddha Shrine of the University, followed by the commemorative oration by the Emeritus Professor M.W. Wimal Wijeratne of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura at the Sumangala Hall.
