The SAARC Exhibition of Paintings 2018 collaboratively organized by the SAARC Cultural Centre, University of Sri Jayewardenepura and the Arts Council of Sri Lanka was held at the Library premises of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura from the 10th to 13th of July 2018.

The exhibition showcases 18 works of art from the SAARC Artist camp and Exhibition of Paintings held in Nepal last year (2017). The paintings on display have been created by artists of the member countries Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

Prof. Sampath Amaratunge, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura stated that the importance of friendship between nations has increased over the years. “At the University of Sri Jayewardenepura we encourage harmony between students. We are catering to nearly 13500 students who are coming from various different backgrounds, therefore it is necessary to impress upon the message that we must all work in unison to achieve goals. Events such as these which bring states together are fine examples for students who will be the next leaders of the world” he said.

The paintings will be showcased throughout the member states to provide the public the exposure of experiencing the artistic creations of other artists in the South Asian Region.
