International Affairs Division

University of Sri Jayewardenepura has a long history of which dates back to 1873. Established by Ven. Hikkaduwe Sri Sumangala Thero, the institution has a proud tradition of academic and research excellence.

Today, University of Sri Jayewardenepura has eight faculties in total: Humanities and Social Sciences, Applied Sciences, Management Studies and Commerce, Medical Sciences, Graduate Studies, Technology, Engineering and Allied Health Sciences.

With the concept of strengthening the international relationships of USJP, The International Affairs Division has embarked its journey to enhance global relations, establish new research opportunities and provide platforms for academic exchanges(include head of the division, the main objective).

USJP can be seen as the ideal place to construct valuable and innovative research projects with international partners.

The Swedish Institute Scholarships for Global Professionals (SISGP) Program

The Swedish Institute Scholarships for Global Professional (SISGP) program is a part of the Swedish government’s international awards scheme aimed at developing global leaders who will contribute to the United National 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The Scholarship program is looking for young professionals with excellent academic qualifications who have demonstrated work and leadership experience and have the ambition to make a difference by working with issues that contribute to a just and sustainable development in their home country.

Eligibility:

– Applicants must have applied and secured admission to an eligible Master Program

– Must have sufficient work experience (minimum of 3,000 hrs. of demonstrated employment)

– Must have demonstrated leadership experience from your current or previous employment

Prospective Students

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMISSION OF STUDENTS WITH FOREIGN QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates with results at a foreign examination held outside Sri Lanka, deemed equivalent to G.C.E. (Advanced Level) Examination of Sri Lanka are eligible to apply for admission to Universities in Sri Lanka.

  1. Applicants are advised to attach to their applications the original letter obtained from the Examinations Board concerned, to prove that their educational qualifications are equivalent to the G.C.E. (A/L) Examination of Sri Lanka or their educational qualifications are considered for admission to a university in their own country to follow an undergraduate course of study leading to a Bachelor’s Degree.
  2. Applicants should ensure that all required passes are obtained in one and the same sitting under a recognized Board of Examinations subject to the rules set out by the Education Authority of the country concerned.
  3. Applicants should attach to their applications the certified copies of the educational certificate and the statement of results of their qualifying examination. (The copy of the educational certificate and the statement of results should be certified by the relevant Examinations Board which conducted the examination concerned).

 

The eligible candidates for admission under this special provision are;

  1. Candidates with foreign passports
  2. Candidates with Sri Lankan passports

 

ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY

English is the medium of instructions for most of the degree programs which are offered by University of Sri Jayewardenepura. Accordingly, an applicant whose primary language is not English or whose previous education has been conducted in another language, must demonstrate a command of English sufficient to meet the demands of classroom instructions, written assignments and participation in tutorials and discussions. Therefore, applicants whose primary language is not English or whose previous education has not been in English must provide evidence of proficiency in English,

 

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)

English Language Testing System (IELTS)

Minimum 6.5

 

Students may be required to produce a writing sample of their work in English depending on the course they wish to offer and the requirements of the relevant Department. 

Visa Process

For Entry Visa

  1. Covering letter of University/ Institute to the Department of Immigration and Emigration.
  2. Recommendation of Vice Chancellor of the University/ Head of the Institute for the covering letter to the Department of Immigration and Emigration.
  3. Certified copy of the passport of the applicant.
  4. Certified copy of the selection letter which has been sent by the University/ Institute informing the student.
  5. Police/ security clearance report for the student which had obtained from his/ her country of residence.

 

For Residence Area

  1. Covering letter of University/ Institute to the Department of Immigration and Emigration.
  2. Recommendation of Vice Chancellor of the University/ Head of the Institute for the covering letter to the Department of Immigration and Emigration.
  3. Certified copy of the passport of the applicant.
  4. Applications of Residence Visa recommendation of Vice Chancellor/ Head of the Institution and official seal.
  5. Landing Entry/ Learning Entry visa of applicant (compulsory).

 

For the extension of Residence Visa.

  1. Covering letter of University/ Institute to the Department of Immigration and Emigration.
  2. Recommendation of Vice Chancellor of University/ Head of the Institute for the Department of Immigration and Emigration.
  3. Certified copy of the passport of applicant.
  4. Recommendation of Vice-Chancellor of the University/ Head of the Institute for the extension of the Residence Visa.
  5. Details of students who apply for the extension.
  6. If extension of Residence visa for lecturers is in the term of MoU, the full name and the signed date of MoU.
  7. Prior approval letter obtained from the Secretary of Line Ministry for the service of Lecturer on a payment basis.

 

CHECK LIST FOR DOCUMENTS TO BE SUBMITTED ALONG WITH THE APPLICATION

For candidates with Sri Lankan passports
  1. Advanced Level Certificates & Statement of Results certified by the relevant Examinations Board. (Please note that the certificates certified by the schools, embassies or certificates without the original certification will not be accepted)
  2. Certified copies of the candidate’s passports (with visa) covering the period studied
  3. Originals of the Foreign & Sri Lankan (if any) School Leaving Certificates of the candidate covering the period studied abroad.
  4. Certified copy of the candidate’s Birth Certificate.
  5. Originals of the Service Certificate/s of the Father/Mother/Guardian (only if parents expired) covering the period worked abroad.
  6. Letter from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sri Lanka forwarding the applications of the children of Sri Lankan diplomats worked/working abroad [Category (a)].
  7. Originals of the Service Certificate/s (issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sri Lanka) of parents who are Sri Lankan diplomats worked/working abroad, covering the six year period immediately prior to their child sitting the qualifying examination.
  8. Certified copies (certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sri Lanka) of the Letters of Assignment of parents who are Sri Lankan diplomats worked/working abroad, covering the six year period immediately prior to their child sitting the qualifying examination.
  1. Certified copies of parents’/guardians’ passports (with visa) covering the period worked abroad
  2. Documentary evidences to prove that the Guardian has been legally appointed, if parents expired.
  3. Original letters issued by the banks stating the bank balances of the Father/Mother/Guardian in relevant foreign currencies (currency of the relevant country they have/are worked/ working) as documentary evidences in proof of the availability of sufficient funds [Not relevant for children of Sri Lankan diplomats(Category a)].
  4. Certified copy of the certificate of Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) if the qualification considered is a High School Diploma.
  5. Certified copy of the certificate of Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) if studied in a language other than English.
  6. Proof of the payment of US $ 100 as the Application Processing Fee.

 

For candidates with Foreign passports
  1. Advanced Level Certificates & Statement of Results certified by the relevant Examinations Board. (Please note that the certificates certified by the schools, embassies or certificates without the original certification will not be accepted)
  2. Original of the School Leaving Certificate from which the candidate sat the qualifying examination
  3. Certified copy of the candidate’s Birth Certificate/National Identity Card
  4. Certified copy of the candidate’s Citizenship Certificate (if any)
  5. Letter from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sri Lanka forwarding the applications of the children of foreign diplomats worked/working in Sri Lanka [Category (b)].
  6. Originals of the Service Certificate/s (issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sri Lanka) of parents who are foreign diplomats worked/working in Sri Lanka.
  7. Certified copies (certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sri Lanka) of the Letters of Assignment of parents who are foreign diplomats worked/working in Sri Lanka.
  8. Original letters issued by the banks stating the bank balances of the Father/Mother/Guardian in relevant foreign currencies (currency of their own country) as documentary evidences in proof of the availability of sufficient funds.

Important: A scanned copy of the application (in PDF format) including all its attachments should also be forwarded to foreignadmissions@ugc.ac.lk in parallel to posting the hardcopy of the application, on or before the closing date. RUDN University Open Olympiad for Forestry Undergraduates

The representatives of the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia (RUDN) named after Patrice Lumumba will be the guests of University of Sri Jayewardenepura from June 11 to June 15, 2023. During this visit they are planning to participate in the organization and holding of the lectures and master classes of the Summer School “GIS Technologies in Ecology” and hold the RUDN University Open Olympiad for forestry undergraduates.

One hour examination will be held on 14th June 2023 from 4.00-5.00 PM at the Department of Forestry and Environment Sciences.
