Sri Lanka Gem and Jewellery Association signs MOC with the University of Sri Jayewardenepura to Elevate Industry Standards

In a significant development for Sri Lanka’s gem and jewellery sector, the Sri Lanka Gem and Jewellery Association (SLGJA) has signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) with the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura (USJ). This collaboration aims to uplift the country’s gem and jewellery industry to international standards through the infusion of modern technology.

Initiated by SLGJA Vice President Pinisiri Wijepala and his team, the partnership received strong support from SLGJA President Ajward Deen and senior members. Distinguished guests at the signing ceremony included the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura Dr Thilaksiri Bandara and the Head of the Department of Department of Mechanical Engineering Dr. Dulani Mudunkotuwa.

Dr. Thilaksiri Bandara highlighted the collaborative opportunity’s potential economic impact, emphasizing the importance of increased foreign exchange inflow. Dr. Dulani Mudunkotuwa, recognizing the pivotal role of engineers, expressed eagerness for a fruitful partnership to enhance the industry.
