University of Sri Jayewardenepura Shines Bright as Three Talents Join Sri Lanka’s National Football Squad

 

 

The qualifying matches for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup and 2027 AFC Asian Cup took place on October 12 this year. The Sri Lankan national football team, which was vying for a spot, faced Yemen in that event.

Three football players from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura have qualified to compete in this tournament for the Sri Lanka National Football Team. Jude Supan, the player who qualified for the Sri Lankan national team, is a graduate of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura’s Faculty of Applied Sciences, having graduated from the Department of Sports Science and Management at this year’s graduation ceremony. Last year, he also led the Japura football squad.

Also, Sanka Jayamina, who was selected to work as the performance analyst of the Sri Lanka National Football Team, is a fourth-year student of the Sports Science and Management Department of the Faculty of Applied Sciences of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, and he has worked as the vice-captain of the Japura Football Team last year.

Also, Raveen Chaturanga, an alumnus of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, has been allowed to work as the media officer of the Sri Lanka National Football Team. He is the current coach of the Sri Jayewardenepura University football team and has also led the Japura football team a few years ago.

Mohammad Mushtaq, who is the current captain of the Sri Jayewardenepura University football team, was also included in the initial squad of the Sri Lankan national football team.
