USJ Alumni, Mr.Siri Ranasinghe, Honored for 33 Years of Editorial Excellence

In a commendable acknowledgment of his dedicated service as the editor of Lankadeepa newspaper for an impressive 33 years, Mr.Siri Ranasinghe was honored at a prestigious event organized by the Alumni Association of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura (USJ). The event, held on January 9, 2024, took place at the Senate Board Room of the University.

Mr.Siri Ranasinghe, the inaugural editor of Lankadeepa newspaper and currently serving as its consultant editor, received recognition for his enduring commitment to journalism. The ceremony featured a keynote address by Professor Agalakada Sirisumana Thero, a professor in Sinhala from the Department of Sinhala at the University of Colombo.

Highlighting Ranasinghe’s significant contributions, a short documentary film titled “Siri Ranasinghe Rupavalokana” was unveiled during the event. The film, produced by Nilanda Silva and journalist Krishantha Dayananda, was released online, allowing a wider audience to appreciate Ranasinghe’s impactful journey in the field of journalism.

The event was graced by esteemed guests, including the Chancellor of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Iththapane Dhammalankara Thero, Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC), Senior Professor Sampath Amarathunga, and Vice Chancellor of USJ, Pathmalal M. Manage, among others.

This celebration served as a testament to Mr.Siri Ranasinghe’s enduring legacy in shaping the landscape of journalism and his longstanding commitment to delivering insightful news to the public. The university and its alumni expressed gratitude for Ranasinghe’s exemplary service and dedication to the field over the past three decades.
