USJ signs two MOUs with Mount Royal University (Canada) and Kyoto University (Japan)

University of Sri Jayewardenepura (USJP) and Mount Royal University (MRU) of Canada signed a Memorandum of Agreement that will promote international educational and research collaboration between the two institutions. Prof. Sampath Ameratunge, Vice Chancellor University of USJP  and former Head/ Department of Sociology and Anthropology, Prof. M.W. Jayesundara signed on behalf of USJP and Dr. David Docherty, President, Mount Royal University and  Dr. Kathy Shailer Provost and Vice President, Academic signed on behalf of MRU.

Under this agreement fifteen Anthropology undergraduate students from The Department of Sociology and Anthropology, MRU will visit USJP in 2016 for field work and they will be hosted by the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, USJP. The local coordinator of this programme is Dr. Charmalie Nahallage and for MRU it is Prof. Samanti Kulatilake

Another Memorandum of Understanding was signed between University of Sri Jayewardenepura and Primate Research Institute (PRI),  Kyoto University, Japan. The MoU is for Scientific Cooperation between the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and Primate Research Institute. Prof. Sampath Ameratunge, Vice Chancellor University of USJP signed on behalf of USJP and Prof. Hirohisa Hirai, Director, Primate Research Institute signed on behalf of (PRI). Dr. Charmalie Nahallage will once again be the local coordinator and Prof. Michael Huffman Department of Social Systems Evolution, Primate Research Institute  will be the Japanese counterpart . The initial MOU was signed in 2005 and was effective for ten years and this time again extended for another 10 years.
