Prof. Ranil de Silva, Director, Interdisciplinary Center for Innovation in Biotechnology & Neuroscience (ICIBN), signified the uniqueness of Sri Lankan specimens to be an indispensable asset for the global brain banking networks for establishing the largest Brain Bank in Sri Lanka at the 15th Meeting of Asian-Pacific Society for Neurochemistry (APSN) held in Macau, People’s Republic of China from 27th – 29th August 2018.
Prof. de Silva, the Chair of the Symposium – “Brain Banking in Asia– isn’t it time to network?” delivered an invited talk on, “Banking the brain for biomarker identification: A Sri Lanka experience”, on the neuroprotective benefits of Sri Lankan Natural Products.
The scientific program included three plenary lectures, one by Nobel Laureate Professor Erwin Neher, Max Plank Institute for Biophysical Chemistry, Germany, Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for “their discoveries concerning the function of single ion channels in cells” in 1991 and 12 symposia and scientific oral and poster presentations.
