USJ signs an MoU with SLASSCOM for facilitating and promoting the Island of Ingenuity brand

The University of Sri Jayewardenepura SLASSCOM (Guarantee) Limited signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to facilitate a collaboration between USJ and SLASSCOM in promoting the Island of Ingenuity (IOI) brand.

The MoU was signed on December 9th, 2022 at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura in the presence of Vice Chancellor of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Senior Prof. Sudantha Liyanage, chairman of SLASSCOM Mr. Ashique Ali, vice chairman Nishan Mendis, board director Arjuna Nanayakkara, general council member/capacity forum lead Dhammika Marasinghe, the programme manager capacity forum Thathsara Kalubowila , executive director Chamindā de Silva, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Computing Prof. Prasad Jayaweera, Senior Prof. Gayan Meegama, registrar of USJ Mr. AB Welivita and senior lecturer Mr. Dilum Perera.

The USJ willing contribute to promoting IOI brand by providing both students and academics as volunteers for SLASSCOM research activities, center of excellence initiatives, advisory boards and other SLASSCOM initiatives. Moreover, the USJ commit to incorporate SLASSCOM feedback on the USJ curriculum i.e., depth and breadth of curriculum coverage and tailor it to suit industry requirements. The goal is to produce employable students in both technical and professional skills to enable a ‘future ready workforce’. SLASSCOM commits to extend their support to USJ in rolling out the IOI brand awareness and engagement activities while providing and facilitating industry placements for academia based on mutually agreed terms and conditions.

The prime objective of this initiative is helping in embedding the IOI value proposition, capabilities and competencies in Sri Lanka’s information technology and BPM talent pool. The USJ conducts undergraduate and post graduate degrees relevant to Information Technology and BPM industry and is committed to producing talented employable graduates of a world class standard having both technical and core professional skills. Towards this end SLASSCOM has drawn up a university cooperation proposition to provide industry support and foster University Collaboration.

Highlighting the significance of the initiative, the chairman, Mr. Ashique Ali stated that SLASSCOM is more than happy to collaborate with USJ, as it is a timely demanding and critical requirement to keep the academia-industry ecosystem for surviving the current and future challenges and appreciated the USJ’s preparedness to support the National Future Talent Initiative (NFTI) program to accelerate the talent growth of the IT and BPM sector
