USJ won local leg of 16th annual CFA Institute Research Challenge

University of Sri Jayewardenepura has won the local leg of the 16th annual CFA Institute Research Challenge placing University of Kelaniya at runners-up. The challenge aimed to equip university students with technical, writing, and presentation skills critical to becoming successful finance and investment professionals.  Local finals were held virtually on 27th February, 2023

Four student teams participated in the challenge, which focused on promoting best practices in equity research among the next generation of analysts. The subject company this year was BPPL Holdings PLC, and the students were mentored by industry professionals who are also CFA charterholders. The winning team will advance to the sub-regional competition, where they will compete with teams from Bangladesh, India, Nepal, and Pakistan.

The University of Sri Jayewardenepura Team A, led by Oshan Brahmanage, came up as winners while the University of Kelaniya Team B was the runners-up. The winning team was guided and mentored by Ruwangi Mahanamahewa, the Faculty Advisor, and Tharinda Jayawardana, CFA, Industry Mentor.
