at uNIVERSITY OF SRI JAYEWARDENEPURA
The Department of Physical Education of the University offers opportunity to participate into following sports to those students who enter the university as freshers.
New competitions are organized for new comers and also open inter-faculty competitions are being held under the supervision of Physical Education Unit. Representatives for the university teams are being selected after above stated competitions. Therefore, depending on students’ talent and ability, they are getting a chance to represent the University for Inter-university Competitions as well as to represent in national level games.
Those students who perform well in inter-university and national level games get an eligibility to participate into various International Competitions and also to World University Sports Competition which held once in every two years.
As university students, you can participate to various games under supervision of following teachers.
- Mr. Asoka Amarasena – Cricket, Football, Wrestling, Rugger, Weight-lifting, Judo
- Mrs. Thamara Kumari Jayasekera – Basketball, Netball, Hockey
- Mr. Lal Chandrakumara – Athletic, Cycling races, Swimming, Carom, Baseball
- Mrs. Nishanthi Widanage – Badmintion, Table tennis, Tennis, Thai-ku-endo
- Mrs. Ramani Kulathilake – Handball, Elle, Chess
Those who perform special talents in sports are awarded Colours at the end of each year and those who show talents at inter-university games are awarded by “Sri Lanka University Sports Award” at the end of each year. Students are getting a chance to participate into any sport stated above and if you are willing to participate, please contact the Department of Physical Education at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura.
