The Postgraduate Centre for Business Studies of the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, University of Sri Jayewardenepura hosted a delegation of 15 persons, comprising of 3 academics; Professor Mitali De – Director of MBA Program, Professor Sebastian P.L. Fourne – Associate Director of MBA Program and Prof. Chatura Ranaweera and 12 postgraduate students from the Lazaridis School of Business and Commerce, Wilfrid Laurier University, Canada on 25th February 2020.
This study program has been designed by the Lazaridis School of Business and Commerce in collaboration with the Postgraduate Centre for Business Studies Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, University of Sri Jayewardenepura. The objective of the session was to provide them with an understanding about the university experience in an emerging market and to expose them to the recent innovations and developments in the Sri Lankan context together with the dynamics, opportunities and challenges of doing business in the South Asian region. The session exposed them to the historical, cultural and political landscape of the country. Moreover, it resulted in enhancing the engagement between Sri Lanka and Canada and, in particular, the established collaborations between universities, industry and government in both countries.
The event was graced with the presence of Dr. U. Anura Kumara, Dean, Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce and several other academic members including Prof. Aruna Gamage – Coordinator of MBA/ M.Sc. Programme, Senior Prof. R G Ariyawansa – Chairman, Board of Study in Management Studies and Commerce, Prof. Amila Jayarathne – Direcor, International Affairs, Dr. Pavithra Maduwanthi – Head, Department of Public Administration and Mr. Pradeep Kumara – Assistant Coordinator of MBA/ M.Sc. Programme actively contributed for the colossal success of the event.
Senior Prof. H H D N P Opatha conducted an insightful and thought provoking session on Performance Evaluation where the students were given the chance to engage in several activities to enhance their knowledge, skills and right attitudes. This was followed by a couple of group activities where the Canadian students were assisted by a group of postgraduate candidates of the MBA/ M.Sc. Programme 2019/20 batch.
